After seeing my brothers legs a month ago I grew wary with concern for his health. Last week I begged him, and made it clear he has to go to the hospital and I would not take no for an answer. Unfortunately, he did go, two nights ago. It may already be too late. After taking two hours to crawl to his car, as my 19 year old son was asked by him to get my brother to the hospital, he may then have realized the condition he has been ignoring. The only thing I can say is if you know someone or are someone obese, and begin extreme swelling go RIGHT now to a hospital or doctor. His feet, after visiting him a day or two after my initial ultimatum, looked yellow, swollen, dry like skin falling off, and rust brown pieces on the bottoms and side. We almost lost him last night, I cannot sleep and have looked up gangrene and obesity all night. The descriptions fit all of his symptoms, and now the bottoms of his feet have black circle spots. Unfortuantely it looks like it could be too little too late. Don’t wait a minute, people with obesity are not wanting to face it, and are people that have serious problems physiologically that sometimes keep them from wanting to seek care. Do what you must, call 911, whatever it takes. My brother after researching this probably is overcome with infection and I hated to have to read that. The doctors have not yet called it gangrene, but after asking other medical professionals and consulting information, I have learned that it is. My heart is broken, and obesity can be treated and prevented. It is a vicious cycle, my heart goes out to my brother, I wish I had seen it and known about it before this had to happen. He kept it all secret, and those around him had no idea just how bad his condition got. Now he is over 500 pounds and I am afraid he will pass soon from such a preventable condition if found and treated early. Comments
